Wednesday Wanderlust: Luang Prabang

Wednesday Wanderlust: Luang Prabang

Quite easily can say Luang Prabang is one of my most favourite places in the World & I so so wish I had more time to spend here. So, traveling further up North from Vang Vieng I reached the amazingly beautiful UNESCO town of Luang Prabang, full of temples, beautiful quaint little streets & buildings, monks, sunsets & sunrises & where Mekong River & Nom Khan River meet. Let me take you on my journey.

Following another 5/6 hours on yet another bumpy bus ride through winding roads & mountains I eventually arrived to Luang Prabang, super hungry in search of lunch & coffee. I found this awesome place Indigo House Hotel which has a cafe downstairs, a shop full of nice local crafts, rooms & access to a rooftop with amazing views of the town, totally recommend it here for a chill afternoon with a book & a drink.

Without wasting any time, I booked myself to go & see the Kuangsi Waterfall, which is around an hour or so bus ride away. Honestly, the last thing I wanted to do was to get onto yet another bus to anywhere but it was worth it. There were a few overbooking issues, so be prepared! (Traveling in Asia, everything is possible)

Later, managed to get back to the centre of town just in time for the sunset by the river. Once again I was in search of food & wanted to try something local, so while you're here, try out Luang Prabang Sausage, one of specialty dishes in Lao, they’re sold pretty much all over the country & I tried it at Bamboo Tree Lao Cooking School & Restaurant. There are a number of good restaurants & cooking schools on the same road (Kingkitsarath Road) & they're all packed, so go there earlier rather than later. I fancied a few LaoBeers after the meal, so headed to Utopia, this awesome Lounge Bar by the river. Perfect for chilling after a long day of buses & walking & mingling with fellow travellers. This place is amazing at night & daytime, however, I think it closes at around midnight & reopens again early for yoga practices. Check this place out!

Next morning, I woke up super early to watch Monks collecting Alms. After wandering around the streets I headed up to Mount Phousi to watch the sunrise which was just insanely beautiful! If I lived here, I’d do this every day, no joke!

I had the whole morning to explore the town, it’s streets, temples, have coffee at the crossing of the two rivers & browse through a morning market. & sadly that’s all I had time for, but seen pretty much everything that I wanted to see. Of course, there were other things to see & explore. & just wish I had more time to chill here, but will leave this for the next time as I’m definitely coming back.
