Wednesday Wanderlust: ZhangJiaJie [Part 2]

Wednesday Wanderlust: ZhangJiaJie [Part 2]

Continuing my trip to ZhangJiaJie post from last week . . . This week's post we're off to Baofeng Lake. Ok, I'll be honest, I was expecting more from this trek. We did our research, the lake looked gorgeous, but it was tiny. At first, we actually thought we went to the wrong place, after what seemed like a never ending journey.

So, we set off pretty early & our journey started by getting back to the National Forest Park & getting one of the buses to Longfeng Monastery. Once you walk through the gates there, you are taken to this path in the woods that leads you down to the next bus stop. Be aware, the path was surrounded by monkeys. After catching another bus, we got off at Senlingongyuan Entrance & this is where things got a little bit confusing & took a lot of patience & calmness. From this point, you have to leave the park completely and get to another bus station where local buses take you out to surrounding areas. You need to get to Wulingyuan Bus Station, just show the picture (above) of the bus sign to a local & hopefully someone will point you to the right direction. It's going to be a bit of a hit & miss at this point, sorry to say the least. Be patient!

An hour or so later, the bus dropped us off in the middle of a town, no idea where to go or turn & got attacked by taxi & motorbike drivers. It got to the point where we basically knew we were getting scammed by the drivers but we just wanted to get to the lake. It really wasn't far, we probably could have walked. But at this point, find the nearest bus stop & wait for Bus No2 and it will take you to the gate for Baofeng Lake. Get your ticket & follow the map. It's a beautiful park & the views were mesmerising!

But was it worth the trek & all the buses? I honestly, still to this day, don't know. After all those buses, we had to do it all over again on the way back. We were tired & just wanted to chill. Once we got back to Senlingongyuan Park Entrance, we checked out the Golden Whip Stream. There's a nice walk by the river, & that's totally worth checking out.
