Let Me Introduce . . .
Let me introduce some of my work that I have produced in the past 3 years, themed in February’s red, of course. Since graduating with a BA & MA degrees 2008 & 2010, specialising in screen printed textiles, I hardly set foot in a screen printing studio. In fact, I haven’t for nearly 7 years. I worked digitally as a freelance designer for a few different agencies from the UK & the US. I enjoyed the work, but was always craving more. So, I built up a strong portfolio of work & went to a Surtex Trade Show in New York, as part of a collective with a few other designers. It was an amazing experience & got to see N-E-W Y-O-R-K, but once again, I didn’t feel like that was the right show for me. There were other shows on at the same time at Jakob K Javits Convention Centre, & in some way I was really inspired by them more & felt like this is what I should be doing & aspire to.
Eight months down the line, after reshuffling my life, I was determined to rebrand my business! I made connections, found myself other printers/crafters/designers who were sharing a studio & I was welcomed to join them. A self taught graphic designer Ben, has helped me to refresh my mind on screen printing, which I totally needed after 7 years of not touching anything to do with screens. I consider myself lucky and thankful for such a supportive community of designers in Shanghai who always step out their way to help others. Something I didn’t feel was happening when I was living in the UK.
At the beginning of 2017, I stepped foot into the studio & started playing around and printing on natural fabrics & hand making my own products: pillows, vests, bags & prints on paper. On top of juggling a full time job & traveling (18 countries in 18 months). It’s been tough, but so rewarding. I’ve learnt so much about my business & found out what works & what doesn’t, & traveled a lot of Asia in that year which has been a huge inspiration for my work.
2018, is set for huge changes for my business & my personal life! Make sure you come back for updates, but for now, here are some of my favourite designs in red, both digital & screen printed.
